Kogi Students Set For Protest After March 31st Ultimatum
The President of Kogi state university Student Union Government, Comrade Philip Omepa, is set to lead at least ten thousand Students across the state-owned tertiary institution on a peaceful protest after the elapse of march 31st deadline given to the government to settle the striking lecturers. The April 1st protest is expected to ground economic activities in lokoja, with combine efforts from students of kogi state university, kogi state polytechnic, kogi state college of education; they plan to come out En masse to protest the closure of their school for almost two months. The joint Action Committee comprising of all the tertiary Institutions in the state, had on Friday February 3rd embarked on an indefinite strike, demanding the immediate reconstruction of governing council in all institution, and the payment of eight months arrears of salaries to all categories of staff. The public Relation Officer of kogi state university, Comrade Cosmos Ogiri, hinted Students of the planned protest with a post which reads “I‘m so happy to inform you all that all the comrades in kogi state university have agreed and given Bello/ASUU till 31st of march to call students back to class or they will have ten thousand students celebrating Bello one year uninterrupted educational system on the 1st of April “. Omepa, while confirming the planned protest, cleared the air on the one million naira bribery scandal that has generated a lot of controversies among students and stakeholders. The President was accused of collecting one million naira from the governor to halt a planned protest in the state capital earlier this month. He, however, stated that he was impersonated and had not collected any money from anybody in that regard. He noted that he had been speaking with the visiting panel and the governing council , and all they had told him is to wait till the expiration of the March 31st deadline before embarking on any protest.
